MHA Consulting has been engaged by a prominent education nonprofit research institution to conduct a series of cyber tabletop exercises as part of its ongoing Business Continuity and Resilience program.
For research institutions, cyber threats pose unique risks. Beyond safeguarding IT infrastructure, they must protect the integrity of their research, maintain secure access to data and intellectual property, and ensure operational continuity to support their mission of advancing public policy. MHA Consulting’s cyber tabletop exercises will help leadership teams test their response strategies, identify gaps, and strengthen their ability to respond effectively to cyber incidents.
The engagement will include scenario development, planning, exercise facilitation, and post-exercise reporting. By practicing a range of realistic cyber disruption scenarios, the institution will gain actionable insights to refine its incident response planning, safeguard sensitive information, and reduce organizational risk.
“Cyber threats in the nonprofit and research sector can compromise more than systems—they can undermine trust in the independence and credibility of the institution itself,” said Michael Herrera, CEO of MHA Consulting. “These exercises give leaders the opportunity to validate their strategies, protect critical data, and demonstrate resilience when it matters most.”
The project will culminate in a series of actionable lessons and recommendations, helping the institution maintain trust, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance readiness for future cyber challenges.
